Stikki the Squirrel met all my expectations. Just like GoldenEars, it enchanted me with beautiful and detailed descriptions of Stikki's world and environment. Stikki is too adorable (the squirrel)/(the book), and if you are not a huge fan of children's books, worry not. All honest readers, no matter their age, who have their hearts and minds open to understanding and appreciating the wonders of the natural world that surround us can easily read this story. And we had better preserve it so Stikki and his friends can keep entertaining us and future generations for many years to come. Wonderful, heart-warming, tender, loveable.

Stikki the Squirrel is a delightful tale, perfect for the younger audience. The story follows a juvenile male squirrel named Stikki as he sets off on different adventures with his siblings beyond the comfort of home. He learns quickly about the new world beyond his tiny paws - sight, smells, and the longlegs (humans). There is a lot of life lessons, bonding, and friendship. Author Jane even included illustrations throughout the story that paints the scene for the reader. I highly recommend this cute novel for readers!

Stikki the Squirrel was a delight to read. Young readers will not only enjoy Stikki's adventures but they will marvel at how beautifully written the story is. If you enjoy being in nature then the author, Jane Wood, brings Stikki's surrounding alive and her descriptions are realistic and make you smile. Her illustrations are lovely too. This five star book comes highly recommended for both young and old.

A delightful little middle grade tale with exquisite illustrations. Stikki the Squirrel will be sure to appeal to fans of Colin Dann and Wilson Rawls. The story follows the seasons and the life of a family of squirrels. Stikki encounters many dangerous and entertaining situations as he grows to adulthood. The author clearly has a great love of nature and animals, and her descriptions are quite beautiful.

A sample of customers' reviews GoldenEars:
If you love stories about animals you will absolutely adore this story, GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain. You can identify with Edmund as he passionately defends his love for the wolf pup he encountered and has formed an inexplicably strong bond with. Hints of some supernatural influences become clear at the end, which makes the story all the more enticing. Parts of the story were seen through the eyes of the wolves which were my absolute favourite. You really get an insight into their lives and I felt completely invested in their plight and adventures. Great for kids and adults!

What an amazing journey Jane Wood takes us on in the Canadian backwoods in the story GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain. Edmund, a sixteen-year-old boy, goes on vacation with his father and a friend to broaden his outlook: but he finds it tedious. That is, until he senses the atmosphere of his surroundings and quite by chance, he finds a young wolf pup, injured and almost drowned. His attitude changes from the moment he takes the pup back to the log cabin, where he cares for it in secret, tending its wounds and feeding it food his father has hunted for their own use. The story is written from Edmund's point of view, and that of GoldenEars, the wolf pup. It is an engrossing story, which, as we go deeper into the story, seeing it through Edmund's eyes made me aware of animals living in the wild, and the prejudice of humankind and animals alike, and the unpredictability of nature itself.

GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain is a lovely read geared toward the YA audience. Breaking out of that nutshell, however, let me emphasize the book involves much more than that simple assessment. Well-researched and well-written, the book is the story of a young man named Edmund, trying to find himself and his purpose as young people do. On a weeks-long camping trip in the wilds of Alberta, Canada, Edmund develops an unlikely friendship with a runt wolf pup named Kegg - with odd golden tips on his ears - and it changes his life. One of my favourite aspects of this book is the alternating perspective between the wolves and the humans. Reading in the voices of the pack enriched the story in a brilliant way. While any YA reader who loves animals and nature will enjoy this book, adult readers will enjoy it too and appreciate the firm stance it takes on nature conservation, wildlife preservation, and ecological thinking.

A truly wonderful sequel in the GoldenEars series. The Pale Skulls takes place not long after the events of The Whispering mountain as we follow Edmund on a new quest as he tries to find his beloved wolf, GoldenEars. The Pale Skulls is an intriguing and captivating story that once again left me wanting more. I just couldn't stop reading.

The Pale Skulls is a great sequel to Wood's debut novel, GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain. In the Whispering Mountain, there was a hint of a supernatural element which I found intriguing, and I was delighted to find the author had developed it in the Pale Skulls. I loved this book. Edmund's story is one of bravery, love and determination. I love how the author took the myths around the wolves and created a world full of dangerous beasts and good people, and animals, who try and stop them. The story of GoldenEars and his family runs alongside that of Edmund and his mum and dad, and the connection between the boy and the young wolf is strong, though at times dangerous. The setting was also very beautifully described. Five stars all the way.

The Pale Skulls is a fascinating story. It takes the reader on a darker journey into the spirit world of the wolf. Edmund is now a full-time ranger who has returned home to visit his parents. Whilst there he takes a trip to the local library, researching the myths and legends of the wolf in the hope it will help him understand where GoldenEars has taken his family. This is where he meets Joe, a Native American. Intrigued with Edmund's story, Joe knows there's a special bond between Edmund and the wolf and joins him in the search for GoldenEars. As they embark on the dangerous course through the wilderness the story takes on a dark supernatural element and this is where we meet The Pale Skulls (scary characters) however this doesn't take away the beauty of the story. I really enjoyed how the author combined a darker supernatural element with the beautiful Canadian wilderness and the spirit of the wolf. The story is very descriptive which sets the scene superbly. An amazing story that I enjoyed immensely. Highly recommend!
