Longleat Safari Park.

If you are wondering where to go with your new-found freedom, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Longleat Safari Park. My husband and I went on a much-needed break recently and stayed in one of their beautiful cottages that overlook the park.

Imagine having breakfast on your patio while watching, Zebra, Ostrich, Wildebeest and Giraffe grazing nearby. It felt surreal.

We received the V.I.P treatment and were taken on a private tour of the park in a 4×4 Land Rover. The tour took almost 3 hours, and our guide was very friendly and informative throughout the excursion. She chose the best places to stop for viewing the animals, off-road, and alongside each enclosure. The monkeys, Rhesus Macaques were a particular delight to watch. Impressive Tigers and of course the renowned Lions of Longleat were spectacular. My camcorder was busy that afternoon and I’m pleased to say I managed to get some fantastic shots of the wildlife and the extensive parkland itself.

Overall, we were very impressed with the park, 900 acres set as naturally as possible for each species to roam safely and display their natural behaviour. We couldn’t fault the condition of the animals, each was in perfect condition and their needs catered for, whether by enrichments inside their enclosures, food treats or toys placed to amuse and keep them busy.

Of course, when we arrived at the wolf enclosure, yes, they have a pack of wolves, you guessed it, I was so excited!

We arrived at Wolf Wood, a natural expanse of woodland. The pack were relaxing, so I managed to film them easily. A few individuals began gnawing on a bone, demonstrating how they use those razor-sharp teeth and strong jaws. Minutes later, the bones were consumed, and appetites satisfied. Then one by one they slowly got up, stretched, and ambled away amongst the trees. The wolves were in perfect condition, summer coats almost complete, their bodies lean but muscular. We were informed that the wolves are fed twice a week, and each wolf certainly looked well on it.

Well done, Longleat. It was such an enjoyable few days, and then to top it all I found out afterwards that the Park wanted to feature both my GoldenEars books along with their other merchandise on sale in their gift shop at Longleat Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge and Caves attractions.

If you decide on a visit to Longleat Safari Park, pop into their gift shop and you will find my books.

I am so chuffed, thank you Longleat, we will return for another visit very soon.
